After 27 seasons of not-so-subtle references to his sexuality, Waylon Smithers has ‘come out’ and confessed his undying (albeit unrequited) love for his boss Mr. Burns in last nights’ episode of The Simpons titled The Burns Cage in a plot twist that blindsided approximately no one.
While the culmination of the long running plot point may have come as a surprise to pretty much no one, the touching motivation behind the script might just warm your cold dead heart.
Writer and co-executive producer for The Simpsons, Rob LeZebnik has revealed to the new York Post, it was his 21 year old son Johnny who served as the inspiration for the script.
"I thought ‘What better way to tell my son I love him than to write a cartoon about it?’"
The episode was well received by critics and viewers and obviously by Johnny himself who commented on his fathers loving gesture;
"The revelation that my father loves me is not much of a revelation, thankfully. He’s unbelievably accepting.
"He once sent me an email, and the header was just ‘How does Grindr work?'"
