There's no denying it's getting a little chillier outside (come at us, turtleneck knits!) Since the nights are getting cooler and the mornings are getting darker, there's never been a better to time to go goth with your lip colour... not dissimilar to the moody plums we've seen front and centre at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
And although wearing a darker lip can be a little intimidating at first, we've got a few top tips to rocking the vampy lip thanks to Napoleon Perdis' Global Makeup Artist Team.
1) Prep your lips - No one likes cracked lippy, amirite? A darker lip tends to emphasise all of the flaws of your lip's natural texture, so it's important to make them as smooth and soft as possible. Exfoliating your lips can be a great solution to rid yourself of flaky skin, so that all lip products will glide easily and beautifully.
"Start by prepping the first with Auto Pilot pH Lip Shine to keep your lips hydrated all day allowing your lipstick to glide evenly," the Napoleon Perdis' Global Makeup Artist Team says.
2) Fifty shades of plum - There are four undertones when talking about plum: pink, brown, blue and red. Generally speaking, if you're light-eyed, pink-based plum pops will perfect your pout. If you've got dark eyes, a brown burgundy will bring them out more. Our favourite is Super Lips Lipstick Destiny.
"Line lips last using Lip Pencil Plum Role to keep the lip edge crisp and ensure longevity," says Napoleon Perdis.
3) Make it last - Dark lipsticks (especially in matte formulas) are inherently more drying than lighter lippies. To make sure your plum lip lasts, moisturising is key - so gloss it up, gurl. While your go-to lip balm will suffice for this step, something a little glassier will provide the perfect barrier between lips and lipstick.
"To keep the emphasis on your powerful pout, it’s best to tone down your eye makeup. At the most stick to lashing’s of black or blue mascara teamed with a little Smokey black eyeliner".
Now that you've nailed the goth lip, best to keep the rest of your look quite neutral (unless you want to go all smokey and dramatic #doyou). Opt for a nice, think winged liner to set the mood for the night.
