Let the shade throwing contest begin!
As you probably already know, Season 2 of Tina Fey's hit show, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, premiered over 3 days ago. This has given us Binge-Watchers just enough time to see the whole thing (twice), and now that we’re done we have some serious thoughts on the subtle shade.
In episode 9, Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) and Titus (Tituss Burgess) are fighting because Kimmy wants to shower, but Titus is keeping his Barbie’s in there. You know, normal adult stuff. Kimmy stands up to him over all the stupidity, and Titus drops the line “You know, there is a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.”
Confused where the shade is? Fair enough. TBH it’s a more of an ongoing joke for Tina Fey, than a real attempt at sassing anyone. For those unfamiliar with the Tina Fey-Taylor Swift ‘beef’, let’s take a quick trip down memory lane…
2013: While hosting the 70th Golden Globe Awards, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler joked that Taylor Swift should ‘stay away from Michael J Fox’s son.’ Pretty harmless, right?
Well Taylor decided this was a direct attack, rather than… you know… a joke. In response, Taylor pulled out the ‘special place in hell’ line in an interview with Vanity Fair.
2014: Next came the 71st Golden Globe Awards. This time, Tina stole the line from Taylor and joked ‘"I just want to say congratulations again to my friend Amy Poehler. I love you, and there's a special place in hell for you." Check out the clip below.
2015: Tina and Amy parodied Taylor Swift’s ridiculously OTT ‘Bad Blood’ video clip on SNL. #lol
We can’t wait to see what happens next!
