You probably heard about blogger Stephanie Nicole, who discovered that Kylie Jenner's Lip Kit ingredients are VERY similar to ColourPop's MUCH cheaper Ultra Matte Lipstick.
Just in case you missed it, here's what got everyone freaking out that they were being totally ripped off:
WELL. Turns out there actually IS a connection between the two beauty brands!
Refinery29 got to the bottom of the mystery by going straight to the source: ColourPop's founders, John and Laura Nelson, who confirmed that both brands are owned by the same company, Seed Beauty.
"Part of the Seed Beauty business is that we are partners with Kylie Jenner on Kylie Cosmetics, and that is a sister company to ColourPop," Laura explained. "They operate a little differently from each other, and some of the speed to market things that happen within ColourPop are very unique and special to ColourPop."
John clarified that just because KC and CP share a parent company, that doesn't mean the formulas or colours are exactly the same:
"With each of the brands, it’s going to be a little different how we leverage the resources and the infrastructure. Everyone is coming up with their own formulas and their own exclusive products."
We're certainly noticing a pattern, Kyles... Coincidence much?
Okay girl, you do you.
