Jumanji is an absolute classic. It's one of Robin Williams’s finest movies and has somewhat of a cult following among 90's kids. Some fans naturally feel it should be left entirely alone!
So there was a bit of controversy when Sony announced they were going to do a remake with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Kevin Hart.
Whilst we initially also had doubts, we have also been a fan of the Johnson and Hart duo. And now, with this heartfelt post from Johnson, we have no doubt he will keep to his promise and make a film that will honour the late Robin Williams.
The Rock, who despite his hulk-like frame is actually a big softie, took to Instagram to let all the Jumanji fans know he will honour the character ‘Alan Parrish’, originally played by Robin Williams.
The Rock captioned the pic of him and a Jumanji book with a very emotional tribute and promise to fans,
"... An important thing that I want to be honest and bring up is Robin Williams. The love and respect I have for this man is boundless. You have my word, we will honor his name and the character of "Alan Parrish" will stand alone and be forever immortalized in the world of JUMANJI in an earnest and cool way. I have an idea of what to do and I think his family will be proud. I also think Robin is somewhere lookin' down and laughing, remembering the first time we met backstage and I (for the first time ever) was a star struck bumbling idiot that couldn't even get my words out. Idiot. He literally calmed me down w/ that smile and laugh. But that's for another fun story down the road..."
Whilst there’s no doubt Johnson still has very big boot to fill (like MASSIVE boots actually) the effort he’s already putting in is settling for us 90s kids who want nothing more than to watch Robin as Alan come back from the jungle again and again!
We can both wait and cannot wait for this remake. Either way, if its good or bad, I’m gonna have to watch the real Jumanji again.
