The Conde Nasté Traveler Readers Choice Awards survey has revealed that tourists see Sydney as the second friendliest city in the world, behind Charleston, South Carolina, in the US.
128,000 travelers took the survey in which they were asked to rank the ‘friendliness’ and welcoming nature of cities they had visited... Maybe these guys didn’t have to try merging across a busy Sydney motorway or find themselves in front of a fast (and barging) walker on Pitt St. Sydney has a bad rep, after all.
But, hey, second friendliest on a list of the WORLD? Well in that typically friendly Sydney spirit we say eat a dick, Melbourne. We're sorry, but you know we have our reasons.
Every Sydneysider is used to the feeling of being judged as a pretentious jerk, just for coming from this city. It's nice to know someone likes us, even if the rest of the country doesn't. Telling Melbournites to EAD probably isn't helping, but what's done is done.
"Aussies are very friendly. Every time we stopped to stare at our map to get our bearings an Aussie would stop and offer to help us," Conde Nasté Traveler quoted a reader.
"Such friendly people, so much so that after we met an Australian woman on our flight there, she offered to pick us up at our hotel and spent a whole day showing us her favorite parts of the city."
"Some of the most beautiful people, great vibe," said another, "I would live there if possible.”
