If you're one of those people who can’t go for a meal or eat anything without taking a pic and sharing it with your fellow food-pic loving followers, then this article will make you very smug.
A study in the Journal of Consumer Marketing found that by taking and uploading pics, you create a delay in consumption, which "increases the savouring associated with consumption of pleasurable (i.e. indulgent) foods." So you basically get all hyped up to gorge on the food you’ve been snapping – much to the annoyance of your fellow dinner goers.
And you know how everyone's all about this healthy and clean-eating thing these days, well, they had something to say on that too: "when descriptive social norms regarding healthy eating are made salient, [the computer generated images] can also lead to more favourable outcomes for less pleasurable (i.e. healthy) foods." Basically, suggestion works wonders and makes you crave those healthy foods, too - this could be very handy!
So, I guess its time we all starting Gramming' our food. Just make sure you don’t let the food get cold. That won't do anything for flavour.
