TBH everything JK Rowling touches goes to gold, in fact her latest play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, sold over 175,000 tickets in 24 hours — but apparently not everyone is feeling it. And by “it” we mean the casting.
Global fans of the movie have been criticizing the writer for casting a black actress in the role of Hermione. However, JK isn’t interested in their hatred, so much so that in a recent interview with The Observer, JK Rowling slammed her critics by opening referring to them as a “bunch of racists.” The author also insisted that Noma Dumezweni, who plays Hermione, was simply “the best actress for the job.”
“With my experience of social media, I thought that idiots were going to idiot,” Rowling told The Observer. “But what can you say? That’s the way the world is,” says Rowling.
Some of her critics in the past have complained that Hermione must be white because she had “turned white from shock" in one of the series.
But Rowling cleared it up because she believes she simply used it as an expression, and never had any particular race in mind when she created the character.
You tell them, JK! 🙌 ⚡️ 😏
