When you go to a restaurant and order a pizza, you might be waiting a standard half hour for it to be on the table. So when we say that it’s possible for nine good quality pizzas to be made in one minute, you might not believe your ears (we didn’t at first).
It’s true, last week 43 Italian pizza chefs made 5836 pizzas in 12 hours and broke the Guinness World Record at the Festa della Pizza, a three-day pizza festival in Puglia, Italy.
The previous record was set last year in Switzerland by Naples Academy of Pizza making 5070…which means these guys totally demolished the record by a whopping 766 (wow that’s a whole lotta dough)!
Each individual pizza had to meet certain standards and was judged by experts. In the end 450 pizzas were rejected (yet, the team still smashed the world record). Even under such stressful conditions, the chefs managed to get a little creative and even used gluten-free and dairy-free cheese on some of the pizzas.
This sounds like our kind of festival (aka book us in for 2017.)
