Victoria’s Secret, the iconic lingerie brand has just announced that they are stopping the production of their swimwear range!
I’m afraid you read it right… this is truly a very sad day. We did think all of their recent swimwear sales were too good to be true, little did we know that it would be one of our last VS shops.
The brand’s swimwear was extremely popular, reasonably priced (compared to their active wear) and let’s face it, pinched and pushed us up in all the right places!
Whilst VS has still failed to make an official statement, its been reported that the company dropped the swimwear in order to concentrate on Victoria Secret’s Lingerie, Victoria Secret’s Beauty and PINK.
In a recent press release the CEO and Chairman, Leslie H. Wexner said,
"Coming off a record year, now is the best time to make improvements…going to from best to even better. We are making those changes to accelerate our growth and to strengthen the business for the long term by narrowing our focus and simplifying our operating model.
"I am certain that these changes are necessary for our industry-leading brands to reach their significant potential…nonetheless, decisions about people are the most difficult ones to make, and we are taking care to support associates who are being affected by these changes."
It seems that no one can escape the unstoppable, all-consuming trend that is…athleisure.
We can’t help but wonder if this is VS’s counter move to Ivy Park, Beyoncé’s own active wear brand. Perhaps they feel they really need to concentrate on the lucrative active wear market, particularly considering Beyoncé has crashed the party!
But as always, every cloud has its silver lining. I’m afraid; in this case, it’s called an end-of-line sale.
