Drew Barrymore just got heartbreakingly real about her divorce from Will Kopelman.
Last night, Drew appeared on the first episode of Chelsea Handlers new Netflix series, Chelsea.
After splitting from her husband of four years in April, Drew was ready to speak honestly about the painful period she is going through.
“I put in my statement about [our] divorce the word ‘failure’ because it’s so honest,” she explained, “Like, when you get divorced, you break up with somebody and you’re like ‘Yeah, that didn’t work,’ and you get divorced, [but] when you get divorced you’re like ‘I’m the biggest failure. This is the biggest failure.’ It’s so shameful and hard to actually go through that, even privately.”
When the couple announced their split earlier this year, they released a statement that read “Divorce might make one feel like a failure, but eventually you start to find grace in the idea that life goes on."
Drew continued speaking about her experience, saying "It's a tough time. It's a hard thing to go through. It's like you're being put on a cheese grater and every second, going, 'Ah! This wasn't the plan!'"
The 41-year-old actress also took the opportunity to thank those who have supported her through this time.
“There has been this really nice feeling of something very fluid and positive and the opposite of how I felt inside,” she said, “Everyone has just been so cool and chill and nice about everything that it quelled my own fears and demons about how we sort of have to go through things in life.”
The couple have two children together, three-year-old Olive and two-year-old Frankie. Drew explained she is taking this time to spend with her family, and her friends.
“What I do want is girlfriend time,” she said, and fortunately she’s got no shortage of friends! The actress has been leaning on friends like Cameron Diaz during this time.
We love you Drew! And hope you start to feel better soon!
