Lots of method-acting articles talk about the amazing body transformations that actors went through to get into character.
However it seems like nowadays actors want to get even ~ deeper ~ into their character. Whilst we completely admire their dedication, some of their methods... well they just made us want to vom.
1) Leonardo DiCaprio – The Revenant
Leo got REALLY ‘hands on’ with some survival techniques for his portrayal of Hugh Glass in the Revenant. In addition to relentless filming (often in temps below -30C) Leo, who is a vegetarian, made himself sick biting into a wild bison’s liver! In an interview with The Independent, Leo commented on the liver saying, “It’s like a balloon. When you bite into it, it bursts in your mouth.” G-R-O-S-S!
Apparently this all resulted in Leo getting the flu and other viral infections. So when he’s coughing up phlegm in the film, chances are its actually real!
The movie was also slated for the unsafe working conditions the actors had to film in. It was reported that the set was a ‘living hell’ and that 15 to 20 members of the crew either quit or were fired!
We hope it was worth the Oscar award Leo!
2) Tom Hanks – Cast Away
To play the Fed-ex employee Chuck Noland, Hanks packed on 50 pounds (NOM NOM NOM!) and then lost all of it (and more) to look exactly like a middle-aged man who had been stranded on an deserted island.
This however is tame compared to Hanks dedication to living like a crazy islander!
Hanks refused to treat a leg wound that occurred during filming and later got all gross and infected! Apparently when he finally saw a doctor he was merely hours away from blood poisoning. DEDICATION.
3) Jared Leto – Suicide Squad
Okay so we know this film isn’t even out yet, but from what we've heard, we are expecting a pretty awesome performance from Jared Leto.
To get into the role of Joker, Jared has reportedly being doing quite a few f**ked up pranks on his co-stars.
In a confession to E! Online, Leto claims he has sent used condoms, anal beads, a dead pig, sticky Playboy mags and rats to the likes of Will Smith and Margot Robbie!
Will Smith has commented on Leto's dedication to the Joker, “He really set the tone. He wasn’t playing with it. He was dead serious as an actor. He was going in and he was 100 percent going into this character.”
We cannot wait to see Jared's adaptation of the Joker, even if he does have extremely big, clown shoes to fill.
